ABOUT

Team DRIVE is a sophomore Gemstone research team. We come from a variety of backgrounds and majors, but all share a passion for research and making a difference in our community through our project. There are 13 members of our team, and each contributes valuable skills and life experiences to make us a very diverse group of people. Read below to find out more about the individual members of our team.

Alex Piqué

Alex Piqué is a mechanical engineering major (class of 2018) from Crofton, Maryland and the team liaison of Team DRIVE. He enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and reading. He has been part of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and the Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, Pi Tau Sigma. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cliff Buxbaum

Cliff Buxbaum is pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with hopes of working in Defense. He likes hiking, running, kayaking, and playing Ultimate Frisbee in his free time

Zach Rodriguez
Zach Spawn

Zach Spawn is a chemical engineering major (class of 2018) from Baltimore, Maryland. His hobbies include running, hiking, weightlifting, and reading. He has been part of the Engineers Without Borders club, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club, and Terp Runners.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Trisha Patel

Trisha is a Mechanical Engineering student from Germantown, MD. She is a member of Terps Racing and Tau Beta Pi and works as an undergraduate research assistant and a tutor for Math Success. Her interests include movies, books, electronic music, and traveling.

Bryan Zeug
Sean Haliyur

Sean Haliyur is an aerospace engineering major from Chantilly, VA. His current interests are in the material, structures, and design of fuel-efficient aircraft. In his free time Sean enjoys playing tennis, volunteering, and reading books.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Avery Lane

Avery is from Prince George's County, Maryland, and is studying mechanical engineering. In the future, he would like to attend graduate school and pursue a career in either sustainability or robotics. Outside of Gemstone, he enjoys reading, writing, and listening to music.

Nikhil Hosamane

Zach is a sophomore at the University of Maryland majoring in mechanical engineering and has interests in mathematics and physics. He is involved in intramural sports and Cru.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Brendan Bradley

Brendan Bradley is from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. He is currently a mechanical engineering major at the University of Maryland, and he joined Team DRIVE because 

he believes he will gain important experience in the field of engineering and research. In his spare time he enjoys playing soccer and gaelic football, and he is currently a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Bryan is a sophomore computer engineering student at the Universith of Maryland. He is on the leadership team for Baptist Collegiate Ministries and is an LTF for ENES100. His hobbies include playing tennis and guitar.

 

 

Alan Kaplan

Alan is a materials science and engineering major, looking to specialize in electronic materials. Outside of school, he enjoys playing soccer, strategic board games, and cheesy puns, and he is super excited to be a part of this awesome team!

Nikhil is from Woodstock, MD and is double majoring in Computer Science and Business Management. Outside of Gemstone he enjoys playing any type of sports and is involved in intramural sports at University of Maryland. Nikhil hopes to pursue an MBA in the future.

Dain Golsen

Dain is a civil engineering major with an international engineering

minor from Olney, MD. His hobbies include playing tennis, composing/performing music, and anything that involves traveling. Within team DRIVE, he is the financial liaison and responsible 

for grant research. Outside of the team Dain is also an active member of the engineering fraternity, Theta Tau. After graduation, his goal is to pursue an MBA with the hopes of working in international business
